ARTLIA's art prints are produced according to standardized paper and canvas formats.

Depending on the aspect ratio of the original artwork and the chosen format, it may happen that the edges of the image are slightly adjusted to achieve a harmonious overall effect and high print quality.

For canvas prints, the ARTLIA team ensures that the main motif is placed as fully as possible on the front side. The side frame areas are continued in color and style to match the original image.

This is a deliberate and common production step with which the ARTLIA team ensures the aesthetic quality of each artwork.

What do we see in this artwork - Carp Becomes Dragon?

The artwork shown here is a Korean folk painting called Yaklido (picture of a leaping carp, 약리도, 躍鯉圖), based on the Chinese legend of the Dragon Gate (the dragon ascending to the gate, 등용문, 登龍門). This painting depicts the aforementioned carp leaping into the air. Upstream on China's Yellow River lies a gorge called Yongmun (Dragon Gate, 용문, 龍門). It is said that the current in this gorge is so strong that even large, powerful fish have difficulty swimming against it. According to legend, a fish that struggles against the rough currents of the Dragon Gate becomes a dragon. The Dragon Gate is a symbol of success, which is why this folk painting, Yaklido, was primarily given as a gift to contribute to someone's success, for example before an important examination.

The exact title of the painting is: "A Picture of a Carp Becoming a Dragon." Under this title, the Japanese depict a carp leaping out of the water. Korean folk paintings, on the other hand, usually show it leaping into the air. This is what we understand by Yaklido. Together with the Yongmun Gorge in the background, these paintings depict some of the carps with dragon faces.
