What do we see in this Tiger and Magpie artwork?
This canvas print “Tiger and Magpie” by Korean artist Misun Kim is an extremely rare classic Asian work of art today. Although the mural was created in 2014, the style and motif make it merge with a bygone era of art. We first see the tiger, which is given a lot of space in the artwork due to its imposing size. The color of the fur and the camouflage stripes make it blend into the background. Only the bright yellow-red eyes and the tongue stand out and give us an idea of the animal's roar. Behind the tiger there is a tree snaking up on which two magpies are sitting and looking down at the tiger. Finally we see an intense red sun in the sky, slightly obscured by clouds. We can still see an almost invisible thin blue-green line running through the image. We imagine that it is the shore of a lake in Korea, at a time when our civilization was, if at all, in its infancy and there was no human influence, because today we can imagine such a motif can no longer be found in the real world.
