What do we see in this work of art?
At first glance, this “Loneliness” wall picture printed on canvas shows two people sitting back to back on two chairs. They seem to be sitting on the water of a large lake. In the background we see a mountainous landscape that consists only of shapes and does not reveal any details. The seemingly endless emptiness of the lake and the great distance from land contribute to the atmosphere of loneliness. The seating positions of the people illustrate a stark contrast and perhaps there is also a social criticism behind it, because although both people are physically close and could easily communicate with each other, they are still in their own worlds and ignore each other. The shapes of people are filled by clouds and “skys”. The person on the right appears to be happy with life. This is illustrated by the blue sky and the rising sun, which can be seen on the feet. However, the person on the left shows why the artwork is called “Loneliness”. Here the sky is dark and a setting sun shines threateningly on the clouds.
Where can this mural hang?
Printed on canvas, this “Solitude” wall art appears to show just two people sitting on a vast lake. But upon closer inspection, we see how meaningful this image actually is. The artist has certainly had many experiences with these emotions and captured them in a picture. A waiting room or office is a good place to hang a poster of this artwork and let viewers think.
